Golden Star Wassa Ltd (GSWL) emerged as winners of Zone 2 in the Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition held on Sunday, 13th August 2023. Golden Star scored 99.9% (49.5 out of 50 marks) ahead of Abosso Goldfields Ltd (46 marks, 92%), Newmont Golden Ridge Ltd (31.5 marks, 63%), and Adamus Resources Ltd (32.5 marks, 65%). The second part of the competition, slated for later this year, will see zonal champions competing, after which an overall winner will emerge and be crowned as the National Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety champion.
According to the Ghana Chamber of Mines who are the organizers of competition, The Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition is designed to educate mine workers, host communities and the citizenry on basic first aid tips as well as to promote basic safety measures. The competition seeks to underline the importance of safety protocols by the mining companies as well as educate the public on personal health, first aid and safety practices.
