Job Purpose:
The Underground Manager will be responsible for leading and managing underground operations and teams, and ensuring achievement of targets in alignment with organizational goals.

Requirements

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The role accountabilities are as stated below:
• Promote and enforce safety and environmental awareness to minimize risk and prevent incidents;
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the underground Mine in both development and production;
• Support the formulation and execution of strategies to drive mine operations growth;
• Prepare and manage annual operating, capital and manpower budgets for mine operations;
• Set performance targets, measures, and manages department employees' and/or contractors overall performance;
• Assists in overall mine management by interacting and providing technical advice to stakeholder departments;
• Implement comprehensive succession management strategy for mine operations;
• Review operational policies to ensure compliance with safe operating procedures;
• Identify and implement training programmes for crew upskilling and development;
• Assist in preparation of annual mining cost and production budget;
• Manage compilation of periodic production reconciliation and statutory reports; Perform other related duties assigned by the Leader.



KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge:
• Must have a minimum of Degree in Mining Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
• Must have a minimum of eight (8) years working experience in a similar position;
• Must possess Underground Manager’s certificate of competency issued by the Minerals Commission of Ghana; Must have a valid first aid certificate;
• Must have in-depth knowledge of the Ghanaian Minerals, Mining, Safety and other related regulations;
• Must have working knowledge of underground rock mechanics, mine planning, survey, ventilation requirements and principles;
• Must have experience in multiple underground mining methods, explosives usage, ground support, and backfill placement (both Paste and Waste rock).
• Additional specialized training or education in project management, operations management, safety and risk assessment, or continuous improvement will be a plus.

• Good written and verbal communication skills;
• Proven leadership and people management abilities;
• Demonstrated commitment to integrity and high ethical conduct;
• Proficient in report writing and data analysis;
• Strong data management and presentation skills;
• Experienced in mining budget preparation and cost management;
• Adept at working safely and efficiently under pressure;
• Ability to work effectively with all stakeholders to accomplish organizational values;
• Ability to work within limited time constraints;
• Experienced in managing owner mining functions of underground teams; geology, survey, mine planning, grade control, and geo-tech;
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in complex underground mining environments;
• Proficient in using specialized software and technology for mine planning, mapping, and data analysis;
• Excellent understanding of geotechnical principles and risk management in underground mining operations;
• Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills to manage relationships with contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
