On 1st December 2023, the commitment and dedication of Golden Star Wassa Ltd (GSWL) to sustainable and responsible mining was demonstrated at the 9th Ghana Mining Industry Awards, where GSWL took various awards from different categories.
The Ghana Mining Industry Awards is the flagship awards ceremony of the mining industry in Ghana organized by the Ghana Chamber of Mines.
GSWL was shortlisted for.
- Lifetime achievement award
- Financial deal of the year
- Best performer in occupational health and safety
- First Place in the 2023 National Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition
- Best performer in contract mining
Mrs. Mona Quartey, a member of the GSWL Board, won the Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding contributions to the development of mining in Ghana.
GSWL was also honoured for our financial deal with Stanbic Bank, which was adjudged financial deal of the year. This award celebrates financial transactions between a local financial institution and a producing mine to support the sustainability of mining operations.
For GSWL's exemplary commitment to health and safety we were duly honoured as the best mining company in occupational health and safety. What is noteworthy about this award is that the figures and details to support it are generated by the Minerals Commission.
In addition, coming first Place in the 2023 National Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition
underscores the GSWL team's expertise and readiness in handling safety and emergencies, a critical aspect of our operations.
Finally, our subcontractor, Yellow Power Ltd, was the 2nd runner-up for best performer in contract mining for the high standards and efficiency in which they execute mining projects, including that of GSWL.
Golden Star Wassa was represented that night by Gerard Boakye, Charles Xiaofeng Dong, James German, Kwabena Owusu Akyaw and Eric Bondzie.
