Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is to lead the Security department in preventing loss by ensuring that effective strategies are developed in the areas of preparedness, training, monitoring and intelligence gathering.

Requirements

QUALIFICATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • 15 years’ experience in the mining industry in the field of security

 

  • 5 years’ experience as Manager Security in developing countries

 

  • Experience working closely with contract security personnel and local law enforcement agencies

 

  • Experience in the supervision of security contractor personnel

 

  • A sound awareness of operational safety issues and an excellent personal safety record

 

  • Knowledge in the field of risk assessment and risk management

 

  • Thorough knowledge of incident investigation practices to identify causes and remedial actions.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

 

  • Develop and update security strategies in an evolving environment

 

  • Continually monitor and audit the site wide security function to seek means of improvements

 

  • Develop and maintain security procedures

 

  • Contribute to site wide risk assessment studies and react proactively to areas of high risk

 

  • Work closely with the Community Relations team to develop and foster a relationship with provincial and local authorities to achieve the highest level of loss prevention

 

  • Meet or exceed all security and safety performance targets

 

  • Develop and be responsible for the Department Management Plan

 

  • Ensure that competency standards are maintained within the security team

 

  • Manage all contract security officers on site

 

  • Train and develop the national security staff

 

  • Daily management of the security emergency response function on site

 

This is a renewable fixed term position. The onsite camp facilities at Wassa include fully serviced air-conditioned rooms, dining halls, sports bar convenience store, gym and sporting facilities, swimming pool and a fully equipped medical Center.
